Wilderness Trail Outfitters

about theWilderness Experience Tours

The Wilderness experience tours are designed to give you the wilderness experience. Lunches are trailside with a campfire.  Customers are expected to help with taking care of the dog and cooking chores. Each musher will be responsible for his/her team.

Make certain you have clothing rated for -60 degrees F, temperatures in January and February can drop to minus 30 F at night and daytime temperatures of 0 to 10 degrees F are common.

On 3 day and longer tours adverse weather conditions generally arise, especially along the Lake Superior snow belt region. The dogs have no problem with these type of conditions, but we want to stress the importance of clothing so you can handle these type of conditions. When these conditions do arise adjustments in the trails we travel are common. A lot of times staying away from the open trails allows us to travel below the wind lines.

Go to our Lodging & What To Bring link for outdoor clothing or click on  Northern Outfitters  for their website and then click on products / Artic Adventure Clothing.

Cabelas is another outdoor clothing store that we recommend. Go to their winter clothing.

The Wilderness Experience Tours are not for everybody. You must be in good physical condition and really enjoy being in the wilderness, and away from the distractions of the civilized world.

You will receive a comprehensive, preliminary instructional course on handling the sled and care of the dogs, either the night before or in the morning before hitting the trail.

You will be mushing a 8 to 12 dog team. Only 1 person per sled allowed.

A maximum of 2 people are allowed per tour.

A 350 lb total sled weight restriction applies to these Tours.

The Wilderness Experience Tours are a All Inclusive Package, please go to the Tour Price page for information on All Inclusive.
